Water reminds us that everything changes state. As with the phases of the moon, water flows in a cycle of impermanence that seeks a container for expression. We can either flow with the changes or resist them.

Emotions are energy-in-motion. Water signs can reveal how we prioritize our emotional needs and the needs of others.

Exploring the energy of the moon in water signs is a way to get in touch with your inner emotional landscape and connect with nurturing your dreams and your inner child.

Water is Life

It can take the form of a deep lake or a frozen tundra. A river gliding over rocks. A storm or flood. Misty fog forming droplets. A geyser or an underground thermal spring. Salty tears of joy or sorrow. Or the crashing waves that ebb and flow to eternity.

Water hold memory and has been cycling on earth since the beginning of time. From a vapor, to liquid, and solid, then back again. It has flowed through all life forms and reached all shores. Water can shape earth with a powerful force, or a quiet gentle persistence over time.

The moon connects us with wise and loving Mother energy. Known as a “personal planet” in astrology, the moon represents the needs of the inner child, the inner world, moods and emotions, and shows us how we feel at home with ourselves and in the world.

In Western Astrology there are three water signs that the sun, moon, and all the other planets travel through: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.

If your natal moon sign is one of the water signs, observe when and how you feel most at home with yourself.

Cancer: Nest of Nourishment

+ My shell protects the vulnerable softness inside, home must be a safe sanctuary for me to thrive.

+ Be soothed by the lullaby of the tides, a steady rhythmic inhale and exhale of the ocean’s breath.

+ Move from the martyr to the Divine Mother, and allow others to care for you from time to time without feeling guilty about receiving.

+ Emotional intelligence creates deep lasting intimacy.

Create sanctuary for the New Moon in Cancer in June/July. This cardinal water sign brings the nourishment of water into the summer heat. Allow it to quench your thirst.

Scorpio: Deep Dive

+ Powerful storms create energy to transform and transcend.

+ You are the water cycle personified, a powerful shapeshifter from birth to death, and reborn again.

+ Hidden truths are found in the depths, go there! But don’t forget to come up for air.

+ On your quest to penetrate the veil of separation and expose the secrets and taboos, harness your sensitivity as a strength.

Awaken yourself to the intensity of the New Moon in Scorpio in October/November. This fixed water sign is powerful, passionate, and penetrating. Face the truth and make space for grief.

Pisces: Fertile Visions

+ Gestation often takes place in the dark, as do vivid dreams. Your best work is in the imaginative realms of the unseen. Build the bridge from the vision to the shore.

+ Your quest is to find a container that is big enough to hold eternity.

+ Be melting snow. Become the drop of rain merging into the vast ocean of oneness, the sea of infinity.

+ To know is to feel. Remember to wring out the sponge every once in a while to make sure you aren’t holding on to everyone else’s feelings too.

Allow yourself to suspend reality for the New Moon in Pisces in February/March. This mutable water sign is the liminal space between mystery, fantasy, and the waking dream of life. Get your bearings by putting your feet on land.

Water Moons Every Month

Since the moon spends about 2.5 days in each zodiac sign, we have an opportunity to connect with the energy, gifts, and lessons of each of the signs of the zodiac every single lunar cycle.

There are three water moons x 12 months = which equals at least 36 water moons every year. Plenty of opportunities to get in touch with the depths of your emotions and your dreams for bringing more nourishment into your life!
