The Lunar Zodiac Series follows the moon through all 12 signs of the tropical zodiac over the course of one lunation. It is an exploration of the The Hermetic Principle of Correspondence “As above so below” which speaks to the connection of inner and outer worlds, and the interplay between the cosmos and earth where the microcosm reflects the macrocosm and vice versa.

Knowing what sign the moon is in provides a way to connect with the astrological mood of the day as well as the shifting terrain of your own inner landscape.

The moon doesn’t “make” you feel something, but when you are in resonance with the energy of each sign, it can assist you in accessing a dimension of the archetypal energy within yourself. It can help weave more magic and meaning into your experience of reality.

Get ready for the moon to enter Leo…

the mood of the Moon in leo

After the watery ebbs and flows of Cancer comes the sunny radiance of Leo the Lion helping us to lighten up, play, and access our inner glow. When the Moon moves into Leo it’s an invitation to connect with our fire, the inner fire, our heart’s desire.

Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac and is like an extension of the Sun - the source of all light in our solar system.

Leo energy has a star quality to it and the presence of inner authority.

There’s a “bigness” that lights up a room. All of the fire signs help us to see something and Leo helps us to see our own heart. To radiate the frequency of love. Some people might say we can only love others to the depth that we love ourselves. Seeing how we might deepen that self love and acceptance.

Just as SUNday precedes MOONday in the days of the week, Leo (the Sun) comes right after Cancer (the Moon) in the zodiac. There is a natural and complex affinity between solar and lunar energy. On the one hand they are polar opposites, and on the other - two sides of the same coin completing each other through the dance of duality.

The Moon needs privacy and the Sun wants it all out in the open.

Moon in Leo lights up intimacy with our inner child, the one who wants to feel acknowledged for their specialness, and appreciated for what they create. When the Moon is in Leo we may be given opportunities to explore the feeling of confidence.

Anyone on tiktok (or a mother of a teen on tiktok like me) might hear the ring of Leo in the sound: “You have to start romanticizing your life. You have to start thinking of yourself as the main character.”

Imagine this main character is a cat. Cats love to play for the sake of play. To create for the sake of creating. To be pet and loved in just the right ways that they like. To “do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight!” KC and the Sunshine Band.

How might you channel this feline energy? And if you feel more like a scaredy cat, perhaps asking: What is this fear of being seen, being loved, being praised, being the main character all about? There may be more heart healing needed in order to give and receive the love we deserve. Ask the Moon in Leo to show you how to access the support for this healing.

As a cat, child, or even as an adult we can sometimes get attached to having an audience to feel and know that we exist because somebody else is watching us.

What is it to truly believe in oneself, to feel confident whether or not other people approve or applaud at our attempts of self expression? How can we deepen our confidence even when we’re not feeling quite sure of ourselves? Sharing our heart, not as a show or a performance, but freely without the fear of rejection.

This is life work and when the moon is in Leo we get a chance to tap into what makes us feel inherently special and love-able.

Our personal best, our greatness, does not mean that anyone else is less than. The system we live in is a set-up for competition based on scarcity and dominance. This can be understood even more deeply in the work of Riane Eisler, the social systems scientist, cultural historian, and futurist, who’s known for her book The Chalice and The Blade (and a Leo sun herself). She writes about the dominator system and the partnership model of society.

“...the Partnership system supports mutually respectful and caring relations. Because there is no need to maintain rigid rankings of control, there is also no built-in need for abuse and violence. Partnership relations free our innate capacity to feel joy, to play. They enable us to grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. This is true for individuals, families, and whole societies. Conflict is an opportunity to learn and to be creative, and power is exercised in ways that empower than disempower others.”2

Since the Sun is often associated with the King/God/Hero/Strength and Power - we can see how this image can be distorted when seen through the lens of the domination system. How can you tap into your personal power, your solar power, to feel proud of yourself without needing to outshine or overpower anyone else?

The sun knows that no life could exist without them and gives generously of themself.

For the good of all, or not at all! However, similar to the demigod Maui in the film Moana, they do like to be thanked every once in a while. If you find yourself needing to be thanked, or complimented, perhaps when the moon is in Leo spend some time thanking everyone you can think of in a genuine expression of gratitude.

Give generously without strings attached - this expands and magnetizes the heart.

On the other hand the moon in Leo may invite opportunities for acknowledgement, for praise, for being loved. Because Leo is a Fixed sign it’s not always thrilled about change. It is the energy that helps keep the fire going - making the moment last.

Imagine friends gathered around a bonfire or a barbecue and hearing the stories and the jokes that Leo may inspire us to tell. Notice how that keeps the party going, how that keeps people feeling joy or warmth in their hearts.

Although Leo is a more extroverted sign, it doesn’t always mean being the life of the party. It can be as simple as feeling alive in the present moment. Moving through the world with a smile in your heart. Making things more fun.

See if you may be putting on a mask and entertaining others out of discomfort.

Sometimes the energy of Leo is one of performance, of show, of being on stage. Sometimes the sunny radiant sign of Leo can be projected upon like a movie screen. Are you perceived as confident and flawless, as a leader with no faults?

How might this create an image that you have to maintain rather than being allowed to be authentically you?

How might the moon in Leo illuminate how to lead from a place of love, humility, and authenticity so that you can live in the presence of your heart?
