The Lunar Zodiac Series follows the moon through all 12 signs of the tropical zodiac over the course of one lunation. It is an exploration of the The Hermetic Principle of Correspondence “As above so below” which speaks to the connection of inner and outer worlds, and the interplay between the cosmos and earth where the microcosm reflects the macrocosm and vice versa.

Knowing what sign the moon is in provides a way to connect with the astrological mood of the day as well as the shifting terrain of your own inner landscape.

The moon doesn’t “make” you feel something, but when you are in resonance with the energy of each sign, it can assist you in accessing a dimension of the archetypal energy within yourself. It can help weave more magic and meaning into your experience of reality.

the mood of the Moon in capricorn

After experiencing the expansive potential of the Moon in Sagittarius, it’s time to come back down to earth with Capricorn.

Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign meaning there can be a spirit of initiation in the realms of manifestation. A desire to set goals and take the steps to move in the direction of what you want to build.

Capricorn is known as a builder and a hermit; and is said to be a sign that feels at home in solitude.

The qualities of the moon are fundamentally very different energies from the nature of Capricorn. The Moon is receptive and seeks connection and relationship, while the energy of Capricorn can be about emotional autonomy and needing time alone to recharge or feel renewed in solitude. See if you have a tendency to feel emotionally withdrawn or have a hard time accessing your emotions.

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and he’s not the warmest fuzziest dude of a planet. Saturn teaches about limits, responsibility, and restriction. There is no time for coddling or sugar coating - which in some ways is refreshing, but can be a bit of a downer when it comes to letting loose and the lighthearted devil-may-care attitude back in Sagittarius. It offers a reality check, sobering up to the finite nature of life.

When the moon is in Capricorn there may be a mood of seriousness, of responsibility, of discipline, and focus.

Capricorn has an appreciation for delayed gratification, and for the maturing process for time itself. Anything that is aged.

See if you can access the wisdom of maturity that knows “Rome was not built in a day.” But instead of Rome it’s your own inner architecture. The structures that hold your life together.

Capricorn is a sign of limits and may have “a fascination with what is difficult” according to Irish poet W.B. Yeats. In the shadow it’s Scrooge and on the flipside it’s the devotion of the provider, the breadwinner who knows that gratification comes from sharing the harvest.

The energy of this sign may find you feeling the need to prove yourself to yourself through accomplishment and reliability.

Keep your eye on the prize!

Earth signs are related to the material world, however that does not mean they’re necessarily materialistic. When the moon is in Capricorn you are invited to connect with the spiritual purpose of your hard work and dedication: What gives your life meaning? How can you find the joy in a job well done, not just working for the sake of working? What gives you a sense of satisfaction and self- reliance?

Capricorn is the 10th sign of the zodiac and is often associated with legacy, traditions, structure, the bones in the body, and anything that is solid.

It’s the mountain that symbolizes the journey to reach a goal. Capricorn can be depicted as a sea goat - a combination of a mountain climber with the tale of a mermaid or a fish. This connection to the waters is what brings the spiritual dimension to this tenacious, rugged creature.

Capricorn is 180 degrees from the cardinal water sign of Cancer. These two signs are often referred to as the parents of the zodiac. Their ship name could be Cancercorn.

Traditionally Capricorn is the Father and Cancer as the mother. However, they can both be viewed as archetypes of caregivers or mentors: with one perhaps being more strict and providing structure, while the other is more emotionally available and nurturing.

These two signs are referred to as polarities, but in essence they want to integrate - as they are both needed to support our wellbeing.

When the moon is in Capricorn, emotions may feel hard, not necessarily difficult, but weighty. You’re invited to relax your neck. Relax your jaw, unlock your knees and just bounce a little. Bouncing and releasing any heaviness that may have accumulated.

Unburden yourself.

Because Capricorn can be associated with career and reputation, it may be a time to assess your true feelings about your work.

  • What are you committed to for the long term?

  • Do these commitments bring satisfaction?

  • Are you overworking or working too hard?

  • Does work interfere with your relationships with loved ones?

  • Do you want to find an alternate route or another approach to your relationship with work?

  • How do you want to embody your purpose?

  • Who are your role models, your mentors or counsel of wise ones?

  • What are the traditions or lineages or legacies that you serve through your work?

  • What are the institutions that you have been a part of in the past or that you are building in the present?

  • What needs to be restructured?

  • And what is yours to take responsibility for?

Capricorn dances with the development of inner and outer authority being the author of their own life and transforming limiting beliefs around what is possible.

Learning to stand on one’s own two feet. The moon in Capricorn whispers: Don’t be so hard on yourself… let it be easy.
