THE LUNAR HEARTBEAT OF VENUS

Venus symbolizes what we love and how we attract that into our lives. Venus awakens the life force energy and the creative urge at the core of desire. It is said that Eros can help the soul "remember" beauty as connection with the divine.

The orbit of Venus has been observed ever since people have looked to the sky for guidance and way-finding. The Venus cycle creates a cosmic heartbeat with the pulse of each conjunction with the moon.

Every lunar cycle Venus and the moon meet up in what is called a “Venus Gate” in Shamanic Astrology. This pattern weaves a cycle that cultures around the globe have calculated and created rituals to follow her journey through the sky.

When Venus meets the Moon each month, there is an opportunity for nurturing the heart. Pause and listen to the emotions as information about what healing is needed through self-love, connection with nature, or in partnership.

Cycles within Cycles

Similar to the Sun, Venus spends about a month in each zodiac sign. Every lunar cycle the Moon “meets up” with Venus in what is called a conjunction in astrology. A conjunction occurs whenever any two planets come together in the same part of the sky and degree of a sign.

The Venus Gates

Venus meets up with the crescent moon about once a month right before or right after the new moon. This Venus Moon rendezvous takes place about:

7 times at dusk with the waxing crescent moon

7 times at dawn with the waning crescent moon

This phenomena is visible in the sky most times of year! If you know where and when to look, you can see Venus and the Moon “kiss” at dawn or dusk depending on where Venus is in her cycle.

Revealing and Reclaiming

These conjunctions are called the Gates of Venus in Shamanic Astrology and they are aligned with the 7 gates of the Sumerian Goddess Inanna in her descent into and ascent out of the Underworld.

Morning Star Venus

As Inanna descends into the underworld as a Morning Star, she is stripped of everything of earthly value. There is a one item surrendered at each gate until she arrives in the underworld completely naked. She is now transformed through facing her symbolic death.

Evening Star Venus

When Innana returns from the underworld as an Evening Star, she reclaims the items she gave up in the descent. She is realigning with her true self and healing the wounds of the heart.
